New Earswick first defeat of 2010
February 21st 2010

New Earswick lost their first match of 2010 with a thrilling narrow defeat to Kippax 26-30.

New Earswick started well with good work opening space for Centre Jack Sinclair to power over with Winger Carl Fernandez adding the extras.

Kippax tied the scores up half way through the first half with a converted try. All Blacks next try was a spectacular one with a total of six offloads finishing with Jack Sinclair squeezing over the try line converted by Fernandez. On the stroke of half time Fernandez intercepted a pass and charged two thirds of the field to score under the sticks which he added the extras to give the All Blacks an 18-6 lead at the break.

After the break New Earswick continued to attack by extending their lead with in form Jack Sinclair going in for his hat trick to give the All Blacks a lead of 16 points.

However the All Blacks failed to kill off Kippax when they allowed 2 tries in 2 minutes to reduce the gap to 4 points. All Blacks scored again to extend there lead to 8 points with Second Rower Joe Hemmings powering over from close range. But a lack of concentration in the All Blacks defence allowed Kippax to score two tries in the space of 5 minutes to steal the win from the All Blacks. Tension and frustration with a brawl which saw two sin binnings for the All Blacks and one for Kippax which saw out the game.

Man of the match for New Earswick was Stand off Ben Jones with strong efforts from Second Rower Joe Hemmings and Full Back Joe Stearman.

The Result in front of a crowd of around 200 was a disappointing one for the All Blacks but keeps them 7th just above the releagation.
